Spotlight on Daniel: Invest in a better future
Around the world, BayWa r.e. finance teams are working to make positive global change happen. Meet Daniel, our former business analyst based in France who’s a proud part of that mission. Originally from Bogota, Colombia, he’s been with us since leaving university in 2017.
Starting out in asset management, he hasn’t looked back since making the jump to business analysis. Along with his colleagues, he spends his days modelling the profitability of solar and wind projects. Thanks to him, we can make a confident case for investing in a better, more sustainable future.
Daniel and his team are helping bring about a vital mindset change. They’re demonstrating that wind and solar power are more than simply necessary; they’re also hugely lucrative opportunities where lifelong careers await.
Daniel never stops learning
Being able to speak Spanish, Portuguese, French and English opens up a lot of chances for new experiences and learning. Daniel’s journey has been as much about cultural discovery as it is about finance and legislation.
Life in Paris opened his eyes to new ways to approach sustainability in day-to-day life. He’s a happy cycling convert, travelling by bike wherever possible to see friends and get to the office.
Conversations with colleagues help him get an even wider perspective on how different nations approach the environment.
That openness, our culture of respect, has helped Daniel turn colleagues into friends. Teams who value each other to do better work, which is so vital in the face of the biggest challenge currently facing our planet.
Outside my own team, I’m mainly talking to colleagues from Germany, the UK and Spain. It’s nice to have that exchange, there’s a lot to learn. You get to see how they see the market, what opportunities are there, their perspective on how things are going to evolve. We’re all growing as people here, not only as professionals.

Daniel is breaking down barriers
Collaborating at that close level makes it that little bit easier to tackle what lies ahead. For Daniel and his team, open communication helps keep everyone focused and optimistic when times get tough. Both success and failure need to be treated as opportunities to learn and plan the next move.
“We’ve been working in acquisitions lately; it involves a lot of work internally to decide the price we’re going to offer a vendor. Sometimes it’s very successful. Other times, your offer isn’t going to be seen as the best one and you’re not going to win. We’ve got to face those moments, think about what happened, and remind each other to be proud of what we did accomplish.”
To get that feeling of camaraderie, Daniel recognizes the importance of everyone showing their realest selves in the workplace. That environment has allowed him to thrive and evolve personally and professionally from day one.
Without these bonds, our work simply couldn’t take place. Addressing climate change is such an enormous undertaking, it calls for a broad range of talented people pulling together for the common good.
Daniel’s finance team needs to know where their efforts fit in alongside the developers, engineers, project managers and legal experts.
Putting a human face on those efforts lets him collaborate more effectively. Sharing interests outside of work creates connections which deepen workplace communication. With a bright, secure career ahead of him, we look forward to seeing how Daniel plans his own path through the BayWa r.e. culture.
In May, Daniel continued his career path and is now working as our PPA Manager in France.
