The wind farm Les Landes, which is about 80 km south-east of Poitiers in the department of Haute-Vienne, consists of six Senvion 3.4M122 turbines and has a total capacity of 18 MW.
“With a height of 200 metres, these are the highest wind turbines that have been built in France so far”, emphasises Can Nalbantoglu, Managing Director at BayWa r.e. France SAS. “Despite some challenges, we successfully installed the wind farm within only 18 months. The good collaboration with the local communities and responsible authorities in the area also contributed to the quick implementation of the project.”
The wind farm Les Landes will generate around 50 GWh of wind energy per year and thereby supply more than 10,000 homes with green energy. BayWa r.e. will continue to be responsible for the management of the plants.
“France remains a key market for us within Europe and we continue to strengthen our focus on the greenfield development of wind and solar parks”, adds Katy Hogg, Global Head of Wind Projects at BayWa r.e. “We now have offices in Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Lyon as well as Montpellier and a wind and solar pipeline of around 700 MW; as such we are able to work closely with local authorities, landowners and communities to realise our projects and we are one of the leading project developers in France today. Over the next 12 months, we aim to construct three further wind projects in France.”
